A lucky Dublin punter who scooped a €50,000 prize has generously decided to split his winnings with his best friend.

The man, who won the prize on a National Lottery scratch card, surprised his best friend by announcing to him that he would be giving him half of the prize money.

Both men are aged in their 20s and have been friends since they were children, growing up together on the same street. They now also work together.

“It was the first thing that came into my head when I realised I won. I called himself and said ‘You’ve just won €25,000’'," the prize-winner said.

"He didn’t believe me so I called around to his house and showed him. I’m delighted to share my win with him – he’s been my best pal since we were nippers."

He said the pair have always shared every bit of luck.

It came at a good time for both men.

His friend revealed that earlier that day his card had been declined at shop.

"It’s funny as we were in the shop this morning getting breakfast and my card was declined. The win could not have come at a better time,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Galway man also claimed €20,000 he won on a Money Multiplier 20X scratch card. He purchased the golden ticket at the Express Store on Harbour Road in Ballinasloe.
