Colette Fitzpatrick and Claire Brock have said gender played no role in their appointments as the faces of Virgin Media News.

TV3 has been re-branded as Virgin Media Television, with Fitzpatrick hosting the 12.30pm and 5.30pm news shows, while Brock will present the 8pm show.

"I think neither Caitriona [Perry], nor Keelin [Shanley], nor Sharon [Ní Bheoláin], nor Claire, nor myself would be in any way pleased if there was a suggestion that we were picked because we have an XX chromosome," said Fitzpatrick.

While they will be presenting their respective shows solo, Fitzpatrick believes there will be chances for them to join forces in the future.

"We were just discussing what will happen around the presidency and the big news events and I think there are opportunities to co-anchor, as there always are with big stories," she said.
