Gaybo: political people trying to damage RTE
CERTAIN political figures are conspiring to try and damage RTE, Gay Byrne said last night.
He also insisted the station had not been fatally damaged by the Fr Reynolds libel controversy.
"I do not believe RTE has been damaged. I believe the vast majority of Irish people realise that a dreadful, dreadful wrong was done to Fr Reynolds. And I think they realise that it was a dreadful, dreadful mistake and we're working on it," he told the Irish Independent.
"But I think there are political people who want to say that the trust of Irish people has been damaged -- but I don't think it has at all."
Speaking at the opening of 'The King And I' at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin last night, he insisted he did not know if morale was low in RTE as he was no longer there on a regular basis.
"I'm not going in and out of there everyday like I used to.
"My Lyric FM programme is off the air for the summer and will be back in October but apart from that I really don't know."
