Gas canister causes explosion at complex for elderly
A MAN is lucky to be alive following a blast at an elderly complex in North Dublin.
A full evacuation of the St Brigid's Court complex was ordered after the roof of one of the units was blown off.
It's believed that a resident had been cooking in his kitchen on the second floor when a domestic explosion took place.
A gas canister is believed to have exploded and caused damage to both the roof and walls of the unit.
Adjacent units also suffered damage as a result of the blast, which happened this afternoon.
The resident of the property in which the explosion took place was brought to hospital as a precaution. He did not suffer any injuries.
The explosion prompted a major response from the emergency services and gardai.
Dublin City Council has launched a full investigation and arranged the prompt evacation of the complex.
Safety experts were today carrying out a survey of the property to determine if any remedial works need to be carried out.
