Gardai step up gunman hunt

Shooting victim Declan O'Reilly was in an improved condition in hospital last night as gardai stepped up their hunt for the lone gunman, who shot him in a laneway in a Dublin suburb on Tuesday night.

Mr O'Reilly (30), of Parnell Road, Crumlin, was shot in the chest and arms with a semi-automatic gun. The gunman made his escape by bicycle on to Harold's Cross Road.

Gardai are trying to establish if the shooting is linked to the acquittal of Mr O'Reilly in the Central Criminal Court last February of the murder of Derek Glennon in Mountjoy jail in June 2007.
