Gardai seized DVDs and CDs worth in excess of €300,000 yesterday after a series of raids on adult stores.

The raids, carried out by uniformed gardai from Pearse Street, backed up by detectives, targeted five stores in Dublin's south inner city.

The stores were searched under a warrant granted by Dublin District Court under the video recording legislation.

The gardai took possession of almost 8,000 videos suspected of not being properly licensed.

Checks will now be made with the Irish Film Classification Office and the owners of the stores will then be interviewed by gardai.

After enquiries have been completed, a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine if criminal charges should be brought.

Yesterday's raids follow another garda investigation in the south inner city in July when a total of 1,300 adult DVDs, with a commercial value of €65,000, were seized.
