Emergency services searching Cork harbour after a car was spotted entering the water have recovered a body from a second vehicle which they discovered submerged.

Gardaí confirmed that the body of Douglas Twomey (48), who had been missing since early last Tuesday, was recovered.

Mr Twomey, from Passage West in Cork, had vanished while driving his four-wheel-drive and was the focus of a garda missing person appeal.

When last seen he was wearing a green polo shirt, blue jeans, blue hoody and blue sketchers shoes.

Gardaí stressed that the discovery of the four-wheel drive was unconnected to the earlier recovery of a Nissan car which was seen entering the River Lee at 5.45am yesterday.

Officers are also continuing to attempt to trace the whereabouts of 53-year-old Alan Donohue who has been missing from Cork City since Tuesday 3rd May 2016.

Alan was last seen on Henry Street, Cork City Centre on Tuesday morning at approximately 8.15am.

Alan is described as being 6' in height, of strong build with grey receding hair and brown eyes. When last seen Alan was wearing a tan coloured 3/4 length trench coat and dark blue jeans.

Gardaí are concerned for Alan’s welfare and anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Garda Station on 021 4522000,

If you need to talk to someone, contact the Samaritans on 116 123
