Gardai have sealed off a street in Cork after the discovery of a suspect device.

The object, which resembles a pipe-bomb, was found just off Kilmore Road in Knocknaheeny on Cork’s northside.

It was discovered by a pedestrian who immediately became suspicious of it.

Gardai put a security cordon in place and an Explosives and Ordnance

Disposal (EOD) team from Collins Barracks is attending the scene.

They will either defuse the device or render it safe with a controlled explosion.

It is the second suspected homemade explosive device discovered in the area in 48 hours.

A house had to be evacuated at Killalla Gardens in Knocknaheeny after the first device was discovered on Wednesday morning by a young woman.

The device had been planted in the garden of the property.

It was successfully removed by the army team.

A garda investigation into both matters is now underway.
