Gardai recover body of missing Mayo man Padraig Sharkey

GARDAI have recovered the body of missing Mayo man Padraig Sharkey.

The 61-year-old has been missing from his home in Castlebar since last Thursday.

His body was recovered from the bank of the river Moy a kilometre outside Ballina town this afternoon.

The elderly man's remains were removed to Mayo General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

A search for Mr Sharkey commenced on Thursday after the 61-year-old was last seen in the Moy Heights area of Ballina at 12.55pm.

Gardai confirmed that they had found his body this afternoon. They added that the death was not being treated as suspicious.

“The body was recovered and the remains were brought to Mayo General Hospital for post-mortem. His next-of-kin have been notified.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter and for taking part in the search,” he added.
