Gardai raid two car washes operated by eastern European businessman

Two car washes operated by Romanian nationals have been shut down after a multi-agency raid today, gardaí have confirmed.

The premises in  the centre of Letterkenny – 1km apart – were being run by the same eastern European businessman.

Gardaí were accompanied by officials from the Health & Safety Authority, the Department of Social Protection, the Work Relations Commission and the ESB.

A number of young men and women working at the car washes were interviewed.

A Garda spokesman said: “A multi-agency operation took place today at two car washes in Letterkenny.

“As a result of this operation both premises have now been closed by the Health and Safety Authority. Investigations are continuing.”

The HSA confirmed its officials were involved in the operation.
