Gardai promote four officers to rank of chief
FOUR new garda chief superintendents have been selected following a promotion competition in the force.
Their names will now go forward for approval at a Cabinet meeting.
They will be the first promotions to chief for 18 months and some will be implemented immediately with more to be filled later in the year.
The four officers due to become chiefs are Pat Mangan, from Naas district; Barry O'Brien, Donnybrook in south Dublin; and Fergus Healy and Tony McLoughlin, both from Garda HQ in the Phoenix Park.
Among those retiring in the coming months are Deputy Commissioner Nacie Rice and Assistant Commissioner Gerry Phillips.
