Gardai probe death of woman found with throat cut
GARDAI are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman who was found with her throat cut yesterday.
Mother-of-three Linda Brett (47) was found dead at her home in McKee Park, off Blackhorse Avenue, Cabra, Co Dublin early yesterday morning.
Gardai from Bridewell garda station attended the scene at about 8.30am and conducted technical examinations throughout the day.
A number of people are assisting with garda inquiries.
A large section of the small estate was cordoned off for most of the day.
The state pathologist has conducted a post-mortem, the results of which are due today.
Mrs Brett is married to John Brett (47), a former army chef.
Their 13-year-old daughter, Lauren, was collected by ambulance and was being treated for shock at Temple Street Hospital yesterday.
Locals in the estate described the family as private but friendly. Mr Brett is a former army chef who served in the Lebanon. He also served in nearby McKee Barracks until around 2001 before becoming involved in private security.
Mrs Brett worked in the home.
"John is a really nice guy and this is terrible for the family," a former army colleague of Mr Brett's said yesterday.
"McKee Park is an old army estate and is full of army families.
"John left the army after there was a tragedy in the family when Linda had a miscarriage," he added.
It is understood that the family have suffered a number of tragedies over the last number of years.
Locals told the Irish Independent yesterday that the family were left devastated by the death of their son Stephen (22), who died in tragic circumstances in November 2007.
"The window in his room has been left open ever since," one local said.
The couple's other daughter Clare (28) moved out of the family home a number of years ago.
