Gardai launch murder inquiry into violent death of Larry Kane
Gardai today said they have launched a murder inquiry into the violent death of dissident republican Larry Kane in Athy, Co Kildare.
The 56-year-old, who is from the town, was found seriously injured at St. John’s Lane shortly before midnight on Thursday, He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination was carried out by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Curtis on Friday evening.
Preliminary results furnished to investigating Gardai confirmed he died and as a result of injuries sustained during this incident. A technical and forensic examination of the scene at St John’s Lane is continuing and the area remains sealed off.
Investigating Gardai also appealed to the public for information and are in particular appealing to anybody who saw or was in contact with Larry Kane in on Thursday 18th July to contact them. Gardai also wish to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of St John’s Lane between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m. on the night of the incident.
