A man has died after becoming ill at a function in a Dundalk pub last night.

The 73-year-old local man was treated at the site by paramedics and transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he later died.

Gardai say they are awaiting the results of a post mortem today to determine if the man's death warrants investigation, but say early indications are there was no foul play suspected.

The incident happened at around 11pm last night and the man was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
