Gardai are keeping an open mind about the discovery of the body of middle-aged man in a north Cork flat.
The body was discovered lying in a pool of blood in the flat in Fermoy town centre shortly after 4pm.
The deceased, a Brazilian national in his late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The alarm was raised by some of the man's friends who had been increasingly concerned about him.
The men were very distressed and two local shop workers entered the flat to verify the man's condition.
Gardai and paramedics were immediately notified.
The area was sealed off by gardai who commenced inquiries in a bid to determine the man's movements over the past 24 hours.
Gardai stressed that the nature of their investigation will now be determined by the results of the post mortem examination.
However, there is nothing, so far, to suggest foul play was involved.
The man is understood to have lost his job recently in a local meat processing plant and to have been battling financial problems.
