Gardai investigate suspected ‘tiger kidnapping’ in Drogheda reporters

Gardaí in Drogheda have launched an investigation following the abduction of an An Post official, his partner and their child from a house in the Drogheda area.

At about 10pm last night a number of men, at least one of whom was believed to be armed, entered the official’s house.

They were forced to remain there for a number of hours before they were all taken to another location.

Earlier today, the official went to the Post Office at West Street, and operating under duress then went to a specified location and handed over a sum of money.

During the course of the morning Gardai became aware of the incident and a comprehensive response team was put in place involving both local and national units.

At lunchtime the An Post officials partner and child were released unharmed at Damastown, Dublin 15.

A Silver Opel Corsa was found burned out in Clonee in Co Meath this morning.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the gang's movements and have asked for information about any suspicious activity at a number of locations in Drogheda, Dublin and Meath.

They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Forest Park housing estate in Drogheda, the post office at West Street, Damastown in Dublin and the Summerseat housing estate in Clonee.

They have also asked people with information to contact them at Drogheda 041 9838777 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
