Gardai investigate ‘fake gas technician’ after up to 200 houses by-passed
GARDAI are investigating a scam involving a fake gas technician, who has been by-passing meters and then charging fees to householders for connections.
An Bord Gais warned today that tampering with a gas meter was illegal and could endanger lives.
Gardai have already identified ten houses where meters were by-passed in an area stretching from Balliniteer to Swords in county Dublin but believe a further 200 premises may also have been affected.
Officers have questioned a man in his 30s but he has since been released without charge.
A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will determine if criminal charges should be brought.
The suspect was arrested in the south inner city.
