Gardai hunt armed raiders following cash in transit robbery this morning

Masked and armed gang struck as money was being delivered to the centre

Two men have escaped with a cash box after an armed raid on a cash in transit van this morning.

The raid happened at the Castleknock Shopping Centre at 11.40am when an armed man held up and threatened a security guard.

Gardai confirmed the masked and armed gang struck as the money was being delivered to the centre.

"Two raiders wearing balaclavas and believed to be armed with a gun threatened the security men and escaped with one cash box in the raid," said a garda spokesman.

The men fled the scene in a black Ford Mondeo before continuing their escape on foot, scaling a wall at the back of the shopping centre.

No shots were fired and there were no injuries reported in the robbery.
