Gardai catch man trying to take Snapchat of himself out car window
A man has been slammed with a fine after he was caught taking a Snapchat of himself out the window of his car.
Gardai pulled the young man over in Limerick on Monday night after they spotted him attempting to take a photograph of himself in the driver's seat.
The driver received three points on his driver's licence and was fined €60.
Holding a mobile phone or texting became illegal in Ireland in May 2014.
The legislation states that "holding a mobile phone" means "holding it by hand or supporting or cradling it with another part of the body”.
However, gardai say it is the second highest driving offence detected nationwide.
One the same day in Limerick, Mayorstone gardai seized a car on the N18 that had no tax, insurance or NCT.
While on the Hyde Road, Roxboro Road Community Policing held a speed checkpoint and all drivers were under the limit.
