Gardai arrest man armed with hatchet after burglary in Waterford

A man armed with a hatchet has been arrested after an aggravated burglary in Waterford this morning.

A man armed with a hatchet has been arrested after an aggravated burglary in Waterford this morning.

The 20-year-old man was arrested at a house in Abbeyside area of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Gardai, who were responding to a call about suspicious activity, were patrolling in the area when they spotted the man armed with a hatchet. 

Gardaí disarmed and arrested the man and he was taken to Dungarvan Garda station where he is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. 

Gardaí are investigating reports that a man armed with a hatchet threatened the occupants of a house in the area and stole cash and mobile phones.
