Gardai are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery and hijacking in West Tipperary today.

A man, armed with what is believed to be knife, approached a red Volkswagon Passat in Clonoulty, Co Tipperary, and threatened the driver of the car, before demanding she exit the vehicle and driving off.

Gardai were alerted to the incident shortly after 3:10pm.

Gardai later received reports of an armed robbery at post office in Rossmore at approximately 3.30pm.

A man entered the post office and threatened staff with what is believed to be a knife.

He then left the scene with a small sum of money.

Gardaí believe that the car used during the incident was the red Volkswagen Passat that had been stolen earlier.

No one was injured during either incident.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen this red volkswagen passat, partial registration 11-D, to contact Gardaí immediately. Do not approach the car, call 999, Thurles Garda Station on 0504-25100, or any Garda Station.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
