Garda suffers lip injury in SF bailout protest

A GARDA got a bloodied lip during a Sinn Fein protest marking the one-year anniversary of the IMF bailout.

Protesters dressed as clowns and brandishing briefcases filled with fake money gathered outside the European Union House on Molesworth Street, Dublin, and chained the front door of the building shut. The garda was hit in the face with the prop briefcase by a protester.

Sinn Fein's Seonach MacAodh, who organised the protest attended by around 40 people, said the injury was an accident.

Mr MacAodh said the group had apologised to the officer. No official report of was made to gardai.

A spokesman for the gardai said it was being treated as an accident.
