Gardaí rescued a woman from the River Nore after she fell in to the water with her dog.

The woman (51) was walking along a river walk when she tried to help her dog out of the water and lost her footing.

The incident occurred at approximately 12.10pm on Sunday on the River Walk between Kilkenny City and Bennettsbridge in the Warrington area.

The woman was unable to get out of the water, but did manage to use her phone to call emergency services, gardaí told Independent.ie.

Speaking to KCLR today, Garda Andy Neill said the woman managed to get her phone working in the water to call gardaí.

"She managed to contact Gardaí who were dispatched to the scene immediately, along with River Rescue and an ambulance," he said.

"On this occasion, Gardaí did get to the lady before River Rescue arrived and did manage to rescue her.

"She’s not thought to have any serious issues and has been checked over by paramedics," he added.
