The body of a missing farmer has been recovered from a river in Co Roscommon.

It is believed the man, who was aged in his 50s, may have slipped into the river.

He was reported missing on Saturday and an extensive search operation, involving local gardaí, the Garda Water Unit, members of the Civil Defence and local people, was launched.

His body was discovered by members of the Garda Water Unit in a river at Frenchpark yesterday.

Gardaí said foul play is not suspected and they are treating it as a sudden death.

The man's body was removed to the mortuary at Roscommon Hospital.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.
