Gardaí are reportedly investigating a historic allegation of sexual assault against shamed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

UK Police confirmed to the Irish Independent last night that they received a complaint of sexual assault by a woman living in the Republic of Ireland on October 31.

The assault complaint dated back to 1991 and allegedly took place in the Republic.

"We sent that to our Irish counterparts."

The UK Police received the complaint as part of their Operation Kaguyak, which is understood to be their probe into allegations of sexual assault by Weinstein.

They are currently investigating eight separate claims of sexual assault by him in the UK.

A Garda spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny that the investigation is taking place.

"We don't comment on correspondence between ourselves and any other authority," they said.
