An investigation is under way after shots were fired at the home of a woman and her two children in Dunboyne, Co Meath, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It's understood a mother and her two children were asleep when two shots were fired at about 4.15am.

Nobody was injured in the attack. Gardaí are looking at the possibility that the family were the victims of mistaken identity.

The front sitting-room window and door were damaged as a result of the shooting. Gardaí in Ashbourne are investigating.

The shooting comes less than a week after a boy (4) escaped serious injury following an attempted gangland assassination. A gunman fired a number of shots at a car parked at the Charlestown Shopping Centre in Finglas last Friday at about 6.15pm. The gunman missed his target, with the bullets hitting another car containing the little boy.
