A man in his 20s has been reported to gardaí for indecent exposure on the University of Limerick campus.

Details of the unsavoury incidents came to light at the weekend after Limerick comedy duo the Rubber Bandits took to social media to express their concerns about the lewd behaviour and to warn people to be "alert and safe".

The incidents occurred on Monday and Tuesday of last week as female joggers ran through public areas of the campus.

Gardaí and representatives for UL confirmed they were aware of reports that a number of young women on the campus have been confronted by a man engaging in indecent behaviour. Gardaí said an investigation has begun on the matter.

"Any complaints which have been received by our security personnel have been referred to gardaí as it is a criminal matter," said a spokesperson for UL.
