Gardaí arrest young man following alleged assault of 89-year-old woman

Gardaí arrested a 25-year-old man after an alleged assault and robbery of an 89-year-old woman.

This is the second man to be detain in connection with the incident which happened in Limerick on Sunday August 2.

The woman (89) was hospitalised at the time after a man stole her handbag and made off with an amount of cash.

The incident happened at Rossbrien Road four weeks ago.

At about 10.30pm the woman was approached outside her home by a lone male who attempted to take her handbag.

Following a struggle he made off on foot with the bag.

The woman was taken from the scene by an ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

The 25-year-old is being held in Roxboro Road Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A man arrested on August 3 was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
