A farmer has been arrested after his tractor was in a collision with a Garda patrol car during a pursuit in Co Kerry.

The incident unfolded in the village of Rathmore yesterday.

The farmer's tractor was filmed by a bystander and the images were broadcast on RTÉ's 'Nine O'Clock News' programme last night.

The broadcast showed there were two Garda patrol cars stationary on a street in the town.

The video appeared to show that gardaí were trying to make contact with the driver of the tractor.

The tractor was then filmed pushing one of the Garda cars sideways several feet.

A Garda press office spokesman last night said the man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, endangerment, and criminal damage.

The man, who is aged in his 60s, was detained and brought to Macroom garda station for questioning, said the spokesman.

No one was injured in the incident.
