Gardaí appeal for witnesses of man's sudden death in Dublin city centre

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a man in Dublin city centre on Thursday.

The man, in his early 40s, collapsed on Guild Street, Dublin 1 at around 5.40pm.

He collapsed on to the roadway and was helped back onto the footpath, where passersby assisted him and performed first aid and CPR.

The man was brought to the Mater Hospital but passed away later.  A post mortem is due to be conducted.

A garda spokesperson said: “There were a number of people on the street at the time and gardaí are seeking their assistance in relation to this incident.”

Any person who may have been on Guild Street between 5.30pm and 6pm on the evening of Thursday 4th February 2016 and witnessed this man or can assist with the investigation  are asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 6668000 ,or the Garda Confidential Telephone line  1800 666 11 or any Garda Station.
