Garda appeal after pedestrian killed by car

GARDAI have issued an appeal for witnesses after an elderly pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car.

The accident happened at Ballinahown, Inverin, near Carraroe in Connemara, Co Galway, at about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

The victim has been named locally as Michael Folan, in his late 60s, from Tully. He was walking along the side of the road near his home when he was hit by the car. He was taken to University College Hospital Galway, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car was uninjured.
