Gallery to get revamp 'by Easter 2016'
PLANS are going ahead for further phases of refurbishment at the National Gallery of Ireland (NGI), with a desired completion date of Easter 2016.
Director Sean Rainbird told the Irish Independent that while major adjustments had to be made, including staff losses, he was confident that the NGI was adapting well.
"We've taken a colossal hit in terms of running costs, 40pc over four years, and further cuts to capital expenditures. So the prospects of 2014 do not look too much brighter," he said.
"But our refurbishment project has become the lead cultural building project in the run-up to the Easter Rising centenary."
Meanwhile, An Post is planning a new exhibition building within the footprint of the GPO to coincide with the Easter Rising commemorations in 2016.
