GAA players put on the glitz at All Star awards
THE matches are over for another year and the field of play was swapped for a red carpet, but Jim McGuinness still had his winning smile as he arrived ahead of the 2012 GAA GPA All-Star awards.
The manager, who famously brought Sam back to Donegal last month, was joined by wife Yvonne, who ensured there was no shortage of glitz and glamour in a full-length sparking gown.
And he had reason for cheer as Donegal dominated the awards with eight players recognised for their efforts in winning this year's football championship. Defender Karl Lacey also picked up player of the year.
Mayo were beaten on the pitch in the final and had to settle for four spots on the All Star panel.
However, the Galwegians controversially outnumbered the winning Kilkenny team when the All Star hurlers were unveiled.
Galway's Joe Canning earned a place in the All Star full forward line.
Kilkenny rival Henry Shefflin is used to dazzling defences, but his wife Deirdre looked stunning as they arrived at the National Convention Centre in Dublin.
Later Shefflin picked up the Hurler of the Year award and his 11th spot in the All Star team.
