GAA event to honour pioneer of Croke Park
A FORMER president and secretary of the GAA, who is regarded as the main pioneer behind the current Croke Park stadium, will be honoured this summer.
A plethora of tributes will be paid to Frank Dineen by the top brass of the GAA and legendary commentator Micheal O Muircheartaigh at a special conference organised by Dineen's native GAA club in Limerick.
Dineen founded Ballylanders Shamrocks GAA club in south east Limerick in 1886. He is the only man to hold the distinction to serve as both president (1895-1898) and secretary (1889-1901) of the GAA.
Next month's conference -- which begins on August 15 and runs for three days in Ballylanders, Co Limerick -- is entitled 'The birth of Croke Park in the Ballyhoura mountains'.
Further information on the conference is at www.ballylandersgaa.com.
