Friend of gangland target Hutch in serious condition after hit-and-run attempt
A friend of gangland target Ross Hutch is in a serious condition in hospital after being mowed down by a car, which was targeting Gerry 'the Monk' Hutch's nephew.
Hutch, who has been attacked on several occasions over the last 18 months, was driven at as he walked along Sean McDermott Street on Saturday evening.
However, the car missed the 25-year-old, who is a nephew of Gerry Hutch, and instead hit a bystander.
The 24-year-old man who was hit is understood to be a friend of Ross Hutch and last night remained in a serious condition in hospital following the collision.
Gardaí believe that the hit-and-run was a serious attempt on Hutch's life and are in the process of tracking down the driver of the vehicle.
A source last night said gardaí are in the process of identifying the people behind the attack and that it may be linked to the ongoing feud.
"Hutch has been targeted for a whole variety of reasons over the last year or two, which include personal disputes and incidents where the ongoing feud was a motive.
"It can't be ruled out that this was an attempt by associates of the Kinahan cartel to take out Ross, but a number of theories are being looked at," the source said.
A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a hit-and-run collision at Sean McDermott Street at 8.15pm on Saturday night.
"A 24-year-old man was struck by a small silver car that failed to stop.
"The injured man was taken to the Mater Hospital.
"His injuries are believed to be non life-threatening. Investigations are ongoing," the spokesman added.
Earlier this year, Hutch was attacked by the relative of an Irish soccer star who is believed to be working with the Kinahan cartel.
Three of Ross Hutch's relatives have been murdered as part of the ongoing feud including his father, Eddie Hutch Snr (59). Eddie Hutch was gunned down on Poplar Row in February of last year, while his cousin Gary Hutch (34) was shot dead in Spain in 2015.
It was the killing of Gary Hutch by members of the Kinahan gang who believed he was a police informant that sparked the gangland war.
Another cousin, Gareth Hutch (36), was shot dead outside the Avondale House flat complex in the north-inner city in May of last year.
He was gunned down just four weeks after carrying his uncle Eddie's coffin at his funeral.
The Kinahan mob is also believed to be behind the murder of the Monk's long-time associate Noel 'Kingsize' Duggan who was shot dead in March last year.
