Today's sunshine and warm temperatures may make the first day back at work more bearable and the fresh spring weather looks set to last for the most part.

The mercury is due to hit 14 degrees today, with some light showers developing along the northwest coast.

However on Wednesday it is expected to be rather cloudy.

"Especially over the northern half of the country, where some showery light rain is expected," Met Éireann predicted.

"But [it will be] dry elsewhere, with some bright or short sunny spells developing, best over Munster and south Leinster.

Temperatures could reach 15 degrees in some places.

On Thursday it will be cloudy, with patches of light drizzle in parts of the country (Ulster, north Connaught and parts of north Leinster).

It is also expected to be as warm as 15 degrees again, with the best weather hitting Munster and south Leinster.

On Friday similar weather is expected but the weekend looks set to be "mainly dry and fresh" according to the forecaster.
