An enterprising Irish restaurant has come up with the perfect ingredient for a great Christmas night out - a free spin home afterwards.

Pier 26 in the picturesque Cork fishing village of Ballycotton is now offering a free lift home service for customers in a bid to counter the ongoing fall-out for rural areas of the anti drink-driving campaign.

The service is the brainchild of restaurant developer Pearse Flynn. He said they wanted to do something to ensure people weren't deterred from going out for a meal and a drink in rural areas amid fears they would breach drink driving limits.

Pier 26 is one of the first restaurants to offer the free spin home service and it is available for customers within a rough 20km radius of Ballycotton.

Mr Pearse said they are offering the service from Friday to Sunday as a direct response to the anti drink-driving campaign and the scarcity of taxis in rural areas. "We are offering a free spin home to guests who eat in the restaurant or have a drink in the bar," he said.
