Free GP care to limit drugs
THE first patients to benefit from the government 'free GP care' promise will, however, be limited in the drugs they can get under the scheme.
Around 56,000 people in the Long Term Illness Scheme, which entitles them to free drugs to treat their condition, are to be accorded free GP visits later in the summer.
However, according to Health Minister James Reilly they can only avail of the drugs specifically for their illness for free and they must pay for all other medicines.
The Government promised to make GP care eventually free to everyone but a firm date has still to be set.
