Four people injured in single vehicle accident on motorway

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after four people were injured, one seriously, in a single vehicle motorway crash.

Two men and two women, all in their 60s, who were occupants of the car, were taken to University College Hospital Galway. Three of the occupants suffered minor injuries.

However, one of the women, who is in her mid 60s, was later transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin with serious injuries.

The incident occurred on Saturday at 6.20pm on the M6 motorway.

Gardai say the car, a red Saab, appeared to lose control while travelling Westbound at Ballymabilla, Loughrea. It was 2km west of the Cappataggle Toll Plaza when the car veered across the motorway colliding with the central median barrier.

Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was traveling along the M6 motorway at Ballymabilla between 6.10pm and 6.30pm on Saturday to contact them at Loughrea Garda Station on 091-842870, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any garda station.
