Forensic tests vital in sex attack probe

Tom Brady Security Editor

GARDAI say the results of forensic tests will be crucial to their investigation into a serious sexual assault on a vulnerable young woman with learning difficulties.

Technical bureau officers have carried out a detailed examination of a scene where they believe the assault took place, while forensic officers have checked clothing taken from the victim.

Yesterday, gardai released a 31-year-old Pakistani man from Kevin Street station, who had been detained since Monday. He was questioned at Kevin Street for almost 24 hours, excluding rest periods, and set free yesterday afternoon.

The woman was sexually assaulted as she was jogging along the South Circular Road towards Harrington Street between 4pm and 4.15pm on Wednesday afternoon.
