Foreman dies after getting struck on site

A foreman has been killed after being struck by machinery on a building site.

Workmates stood to form a guard of honour as the body of Barry Malone (63) from Whitecross, Co Armagh, was removed from the site of the new €37.5m Monaghan Education Campus and Theatre yesterday.

The foreman with the bricklayers on the John Sisk & Sons building site on the Armagh Road in Monaghan died at the scene.

Gardai and inspectors from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) inspected the site yesterday.

A spokesman for John Sisk & Son said: "We want to express our deep sympathy with the family, friends and colleagues of the man who has died."
