Food sector can't fill hi-tech jobs
THE food industry is facing difficulties recruiting workers with the right kind of skills despite huge opportunities for growth, it has been claimed.
Companies such as Greencore and Nestle have found it difficult to find the right employees for skilled vacancies, Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney said.
He challenged Irish universities to listen to company leaders about courses needed to develop entrepreneurial and innovation skills.
The opportunities were shown by the research centre being built by Kerry Group in Naas, Co Kildare, which would employ 1,000 people on average salaries of €80,000 a year, he said.
