Fog blamed for death of young man after his car hits truck

HEAVY fog is being blamed for a head-on collision between a truck and a car in which a young man died.

The accident occurred on the Grenagh to Bweeng Road in north Cork shortly after 11.30am yesterday.

The deceased, who was the driver and sole occupant of the car, suffered multiple injuries in the collision just 4km outside Grenagh village.

The truck driver was uninjured but was treated at the scene for shock.

Heavy fog and mist were reported throughout Cork with reduced visibility on many rural roads.

Gardai declined to identify the deceased, who is in his 20s, until all his relatives have been notified.

Meanwhile, gardai are investigating a serious road traffic accident which occurred last night in Baldoyle in Dublin.

The accident involving two cars happened on Moyne Road shortly after 10.40pm.

The accident has been described as 'serious'.

It is understood that one person needed to be cut from the car by the Dublin Fire Brigade who attended the scene.
