Flood-damaged DART line to re-open on Wednesday

NORMAL service along the southside DART line is expected to resume by Wednesday, several days earlier than expected, after engineers repaired a bridge damaged by last month's floods.

Thousands of rail commuters were forced to use the bus every day after the line was closed between Grand Canal Dock and Sydney Parade on October 27 due to flooding near a bridge pier on Dodder Bridge, at the south end of Lansdowne Road.

There was chaos after scheduled bus services could not cope with the extra demand. Only last Thursday saw a dedicated shuttle bus service between Booterstown and Pearse stations to help transport thousands of commuters.

The works also caused serious disruption to Rosslare/Gorey rail services. But yesterday Iarnrod Eireann said engineers expected to re-open the bridge by Wednesday.
