THE creation of an Irish 'superbrand' and establishing a global media hub are among five ideas on the shortlist for a lucrative job-creation prize.

Your Country, Your Call is the brainchild of Dr Martin McAleese, husband of President Mary McAleese. The five finalists, chosen from 9,000 applications, will soon learn if they are selected for the award of €100,000 each and a development fund of up to €500,000.

Among the finalists is the founder of O'Brien's Sandwich Bars, Brody Sweeney. His idea was for the creation of an Irish tourism-and-food 'superbrand'.

Other finalists include screenwriter Neil Leyden, who suggested the development of a digital-content 'media park'.

The winners will be an-nounced on September 17.
