Gardaí have seized five guns and hundreds of thousands of euro worth of drugs during separate raids on grow houses.
Independent.ie has learned that the operations were carried out in Co Limerick and Co Leitrim yesterday.
Gardaí attached to the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit (DDU) discovered approximately 200 cannabis plants, worth an estimated €160,000 at a property in Kilknockan, Adare at approximately 6pm on Tuesday.
Two men, aged 56 and 58, were arrested at the scene. The pair were detained at Henry Street under section 2 drug of the drug trafficking act. Investigation are ongoing and searches continue.
In a follow up search today, in the Ballynanty area of Limerick City, gardaí from Mayorstone, assisted by the Regional Support Unit (RSU) discovered a firearm and cocaine with an estimated value of €6,000.
Gardaí were also alerted to the discovery of a holdall bag on lands at Old Pallas, County Limerick. This bag was found to contain a machine gun, a shotgun, two pistols and firearm accessories. No arrests have been made in connection with the firearm seizures.
In a separate search in Co Leitrim gardaí discovered 175 cannabis plants with an approximate value of €140,000.
The drugs were discovered as part of an on going into investigation into the sale and supply of illegal drugs.
The discovery was made when a property at Cluain Alainn was searched under warrant at 11am on Wednesday. The house was unoccupied and no one was arrested.
