the Irish Independent's 'FIT' magazine took its City Series of 10k runs to Cork yesterday after the inaugural race in Dublin's Phoenix Park in May.

Some 400 participants lined up in sunny Pairc Ui Caoimh to compete for the €800 first prize, and Lord Mayor Catherine Clancy started the run.

Following a course around the Marina, the race was won by Sergio Cionabanu of Clonliffe Harriers.

A challenging course by all accounts, the run sets the stage for several more 'FIT' magazine events scheduled for 2014.

Women's winner Claire McCarthy said: "It was well organised, I really enjoyed it."
