First water charge bills in January 2015
HOUSEHOLDS are to receive their first water charge bills in January 2015 – a year later than the deadline originally planned under the bailout programme.
In July, the first homes to get meters will be contacted and work on installing meters is expected to begin in August.
However, how much households will have to pay will be determined by the Commission for Energy Regulation, according to Irish Water's chief executive John Tierney.
Homes will also be charged in installments for the cost of meter installation, but the amount has yet to be set by the water management agency.
Over the next three and a half years, more than one million meters will be installed at an average of 27,000 a month.
Mr Tierney told Morning Ireland that that people would receive two weeks' notice before the installation of water meters.
