First step taken toward new children's hospital
The first step has been taken toward the recruitment of a design team for the new national children's hospital, which is due to open in 2018, writes Eilish O'Regan.
The Paediatric Hospital Development Board has published a "prior information notice" in the EU Journal and on the Government's e-tenders website in relation to a forthcoming tender competition for the work.
It plans to select a design team for the children's hospital project at the end of this year after going through an EU-wide trawl.
The notice is not yet a full tender "but rather an advance notification of the intention to have such a competition in the near future", said a spokesman.
He said that it alerted potential bidders and allows them to get some preliminary information as to what will be required and expected of them.
"It also affords potential bidders the opportunity to make some observations on the proposed procurement process in advance of the development board finalising the detail of that process," he added.
The Government announced last November that St James's Hospital campus was the location for the children's facility.
Planning permission is not expected to be lodged for another year and the foundations are due to be laid in late 2015.
