Firm to create 70 hi-tech positions

Up to 70 hi-tech jobs are to be created in Galway by a world leader in business communications technology.

Avaya will make the announcement at the official opening of its Customer Experience Centre at the Mervue Business Park today.

Top consultant to help ill children

The first consultant specialising in the care of children with life-limiting illnesses has been appointed.

Dr Mary Devins, who will take up her role next month, will give the benefit of her expertise to doctors looking after children who need palliative care, according to the Irish Hospice Foundation, which is funding the post.

Novelist O'Connor joins Aosdana

Novelist Joseph O'Connor is among five new members of Aosdana elected yesterday.

He joined fellow writer John Arden, architect John Tuomey, and artists Corban Walker and Daphne Wright, all fellow inductees at the Aosdana General Assembly in the Royal College of Surgeons.

Gardai seek help in search for teen

GARDAI last night appealed for help in tracing a 15-year-old girl missing since Thursday.

Shannon Jackson, from New Street, Dublin, is 5ft 4in, of slim build with brown hair. Anyone with information can contact Kevin Street station on 01 666 9400.
